PREVIEW- Astonishing X-men by Charles Soule and Jim Cheung

I can't say I even know what's going on with the X-Men these days.  But I'm a big fan of Jim Cheung's art, Old Man Logan, Bishop wearing cornrows, and Warren Worthington as winged Death... So here's some preview pages and variant covers from the new Astonishing X-Men #1...
The sales pitch
ONLY THE X-MEN CAN SAVE US! An ancient evil is attacking the world’s most powerful minds. It will have them by the time you finish this sentence, and a moment later, it will have us all. A band of X-MEN discovers the truth behind the threat, but there is no time left. PSYLOCKE, OLD MAN LOGAN, BISHOP, ARCHANGEL, FANTOMEX, ROGUE and GAMBIT will attempt to save a world that hates and fears them. Why? BECAUSE THEY ARE THE X-MEN. From blockbuster writer CHARLES SOULE and joined by a roster of superstar artists beginning with JIM CHEUNG. ASTONISHING X-MEN. It’s the X-book you need

See...  That's how you do a preview.  Explosions, threats, introduce some characters, hint at the villain, and cliffhang the reveal.  Well-played, Marvel.  Well-played.  Anyways, I almost want to buy this comic.  If Marvel was not undercutting themselves with that five dollar price tag, I might consider it, but they are so, nah.

Nice John Cassaday Old Man Logan variant...

This Jim Lee variant is unintentionally hilarious to me.  But I'm not even prepared to get into all that.  Maybe I can be baited into it in the comments or something.

But like I was saying before, those pages and the character lineup lead me to believe that this Astonishing X-Men run will be a blast.  Astonishing X-Men #1 hits stored July 19th.

Peace,
