PREVIEW: Secret Avengers #18

I haven't bought a single issue of Secret Avengers, but I promise you if I see this alternate cover of Secret Avengers #18 (which parodies Frank Quitely's hella tight cover to New X-men #114, that doubled as the cover to the collection New X-Men, Vol. 1: E is for Extinction) by Larry Stroman the next time I'm at my comic shop, I guarantee you that they will get my three dollars. Oh yeah, the interiors by Warren Ellis and Michael Lark don't suck either...

(P)REVIEW: "A Smart Black Boy: The Sonic Inception" by Blctxt Contxt

It's my anniversary today (yeah, I'm married. sorry yamps!), so maybe it's an appropriate time to be so impressed by a sweetheart rap song about a budding romance that never quite got a chance to take root, and maybe it's not. But dammit, this song Goodbye off Blctxt Contxt's (his artsy way to spell "Black Text Context") new EP A Smart Black Boy: The Sonic Inception is my new shit...

Comicbook World #60 Dude challenges disobediant stepdaughter in armored COMBAT

While you're sitting around with fam debating about whether it's appropriate to spank your bad ass kids, this dude skipped the belt and the switch, and grabbed the mother effin' SWORD...

Brandon Graham, Ross Campbell, Alan Moore and more resurrecting '90s Image Books?!?

I was shocked to find out that one of my favorite cartoonists (namely super-talented GhettoManga Award-winning writer-artist Ross Campbell) was going to be drawing a monthly Image comic bringing back Glory, the 90's era Wonder Woman knockoff originally "created" by the super-prolific rip-off machine Rob Liefeld. That was before I knew that Image was bringing back a whole slew of Rob's characters with such folks as Ross, Brandon Graham, Erik Larson, and a couple time capsuled Alan Moore script on the help-out. And yes, Rob will be participating in some of the books, too...

Playdough + Heath McNease + Wu Tang Beats + My cover art = Wed White and WU!

Since they included it at the end of this promo video, I guess it's safe for me to share the cover art I did for Wed, White and Wu, the upcoming mixtape by Playdough and Heath McNease...

The "Secret Origin" of Blackalicious

My second favorite album of all time is the epic hip hop experiment Blazing Arrow by the mighty Blackalicious crew (only because Public Enemy's It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back is 100% unsinkable... sorry guys). One of my favorite tracks off the record is Paragraph President, which they perform live in the clip below. Vevo cuts out the last verse (which is EXTREMELY dope), but I can forgive them since it makes room for Gab and Xcel to explain how they came together on some WonderTwin isht...

For fans of that BOOM BAP- Venomous2000 & DJ Priority

KNO + Marq Spekt +Action Bronson = DOWNLOAD THIS

Sometimes it takes large doses of hip hop aggression to get you going. "Thug is the Drug" as Mos Def put it. So here's a dose to get your day going courtesy of the mighty MarQ Spekt and friends. And this ain't safe for work, so put your headphones on...

"Hardbody Deluxe" release info and teaser art

I've been sweating bullets over Hardbody Deluxe since I caught wind of this ill multimedia project my indie comics dude  Adofo (Neverknots, Still I Rise) was doing in conjunction with street hop dude MarQ Spekt. "I wrote a story about a guy who just got fed up with just talking about the ills of the industry that tried to swallow him and spit him out..." says Spekt about the project... "Think Falling Down but in HipHop form and with more blood. Yep, that’s the story of Hardbody Deluxe." I never really stopped geeking after that... I was able to get it together enough to gather this information and some preview material from the artists...

SWEET: "POP LIFE" Limited Edition Print by Jim Mahfood

POP LIFE by Jim Mahfood.

IN STORES NOW- Static Shock #2

I think it's fair to say I was a huge fan of the original Static comic Milestone put out back in the day, not so much the Static Shock cartoon series. The jury is still out on this new 52 Static Shock reboot by Scott McDaniel (Nightwing), but I will keep an open mind until I get to read it. Oh wait, here's a preview! Let's check it out...

Method Man + Sour Patch Kids = WTF?!?

Whoever touched Method Man on the shoulder then convinced him to record a song (with profanity) and shoot this video about Sour Patch Kids candy is a persuasive genius of Biblical proportions. As good of a look as it is for Sour Patch Kids, I think it's gonna be a snafu for Mef...

PREVIEW- Invincible #83

There isn't any fighting in this 5 page preview of Invincible #83. Still, this is one of the best previews I have read in a long time. Superb writing and art that addresses all the conflicts (physical and otherwise) that are likely to erupt in this issue.

Subscribe to GhettoManga Quarterly magazine and get a FREE comic!

As the new issue of GhettoManga Quarterly magazine nears completion, I was wondering what it would take to get anyone having the old "to-subscribe-or-not-to-subscribe" debate to go ahead and take the leap. Yeah, I know... being the first kid on the block to receive a copy of GhettoManga Quarterly should be its own reward, but I want to give people as much bang for the buck as I possibly can. Then it hit me! Everyone likes free comics, right?

PREVIEW- Incredible Hulk #1

Those silly fools at Marvel are looking to get in on the reboot fever with the all-new, all-different (but still incredible) Incredible Hulk #1, written by red hot scribe Jason Aaron (Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine ). Also since DC snagged Jim Lee, Marvel threw huge piles of money and virgins at superstar artist Marc Silvestri (The Darkness). Peep...

PREVIEW- Secret Avengers #18

A superhero chopping a dude's head in half on this John Cassaday cover? Warren Ellis at the type writer? No, it's not a "New 52" reboot of StormWatch: Black, The Authority or Planetary, it's just Secret Avengers #18...  the dome-splitting duty is courtesy of Shang Chi's deadly hands of kung fu, so Jack Hawksmoor can take the day off. I haven't read a single issue of Secret Avengers so I can't provide any context for these pages (which have no letters yet), but I understand Shang Chi getting his Ong Bak on, so I figured you would too...
